Steve King and Tom Latham Oppose Job Creation Measure

Bill would have created jobs for Iowa, broken gridlock in Washington

DES MOINES – Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman Sue Dvorsky released the following statement after Congressmen Steve King and Tom Latham voted against the bi-partisan Currency Exchange Rate Oversight Reform Act of 2011:

“By voting against this bi-partisan bill, Steve King and Tom Latham are putting the Chinese economy ahead of jobs here at home. There is no rational explanation why Congressmen King and Latham would oppose a bill that promotes job creation within our borders by ending the practice of currency manipulation by countries like China.

“It’s unfortunate that they chose not to join Republican Senator Chuck Grassley and Iowa Democrats in supporting American jobs. This was an opportunity to put American workers first, and Congressmen King and Latham once again let their state down.”

The China Currency Manipulation bill would have combatted the policies of foreign countries, like China, which has undervalued its currency for years, making it harder for America to compete. The bill passed the United States Senate yesterday with support form both Senator Tom Harkin and Chuck Grassley.
